Warning: This list contains images and descriptions which may cause offense to some readers. I find this list absolutely horrifying. But I also know that unless we study history and change our ways, we are destined to repeat it.
The subject of human experiment mostly included people that were prisoners or slaves. Sometimes doctors in the pursuit of knowledge performed experiments on themselves. This list is the top ten most evil experiments carried out on humans.
Stanford Prison Experiment
A psychological study of human responses to captivity and behavioral effects on both authorities and inmates in prison. Undergraduate volunteers played the roles of both guards and prisoners in a mock prison.
Prisoners and guards rapidly adapted to their roles, stepping beyond the boundaries of what had been predicted. Their behavior was quantified as dangerous and psychologically damaging.
One third the guards were found to have sadistic tendencies and prisoners were emotionally traumatized. People even had to be removed from the experiment early. Finally, due to the unexpected abusive behavior, the experiment had to be terminated early.
The Monster Study
The Monster Study was an experiment on 22 orphans from Iowa. Half the children were placed in a controlled environment with positive speech therapy. They praised their speech and gave positive affirmation. The other half were give negative speech therapy and told they had stutters.
Normal speaking children began to stutter and had severe psychological damage. Many of the children continued through the rest of their lives to struggle with speech and psychological issues.
People were horrified that orphans were chosen for this experiment.
This was a medical study of the residents of the Marshall Islands which were exposed to radioactive fallout in 1954. It is unclear if the radioactive explosion was on purpose in order to do research or if the research came after the “accident”.
Doctors found that in the first few years after the exposure stillbirths and miscarriages were extremely high. After five years, the rate began to subside. But children continued to have development problems, growth issues and a disproportionate amount of thyroid cancer.
This was a code name for a CIA mind-control program. It involved giving groups of unsuspecting people including soldiers, mentally ill patients, government agents, doctors, CIA agents, prostitutes and the general public LSD and other experimental drugs and then observing their behaviors and video taping it.
In 1973, the Director of the CIA had all files destroyed.
The Aversion Project
South African’s army forced white lesbian and gay soldiers to have sex-changes in the 1970’s to try to cure the gay.
They even subjected their subjects to chemical castration, electric shock and other unethical medical experiments.

North Korean Experiement
Prisoners in North Korea were denied any humane rights and subjected to horrifying abuse. Women prisoners were forced to each poisoned cabbage causing vomiting blood and anal bleeding.
They took entire families and subjected them to poisonous injections while scientists observed. They watched a family suffer from suffocating gas. The mom and dad gave their children mouth-to-mouth to try to save their children while they themselves were dying.
Poison Laboratory of the Soviets
This was a covert poison research facility. They tested deadly poisons on prisoners including mustard gas, ricin, digitoxin and others. The goal was to find a tasteless, odorless chemical that could not be detected post-mortem.
C-2 was developed from this experiment. Witnesses have testified that C-2 silently kills a victim in 15 minutes.
The Tuskegee Syphilis Study
This was a clinical study became notorious because it was conducted without the full disclosure to it’s subjects of what was being done to them. This case actually led to a change in the protection of patients in clinical studies.
In 1932 the study began and patients were told they had “bad blood” and could receive free medical treatment. What they did not tell their subjects was that they were using toxic and dangerous treatments for syphilis.
Subjects were even give placebo treatments just so that doctors could observe the slow progression of the disease.
Unit 731 was an undercover chemical warfare development unit of the Imperial Japanese Army. They did lethal experimentation on prisoners of war. On record is some of the most notorious war crimes carried out by this unit.
Some of the horrendous crimes committed against prisoners were vivisection of living people, including pregnant woman that were purposely impregnated by the doctors to do experiments on. Limbs were sewn to various placed on their bodies. People were frozen and de-thawed. People were used as grenades, implanting bombs inside of a living person.
People were raped and purposely infected with gonorrhea and syphilis.
The German Nazi regime did experiments on prisoners in their concentration camps. The conducted experiments on twin children trying to understand the genetics. The trials included unnatural manipulations, adding chemicals to their eyes and even sewing twins together.
They also forced prisoners to endure ice water tanks for hours upon hours so they could study hypothermia.
One of the worse experiments was inflicting prisoners with bacteria like Streptococcus, gangrene and tetanus and watching how their bodies deteriorated. They even purposely aggravated the wounds by shoving ground glass into the wounds.
Electroshock Therapy on Children
in the 1960’s Dr. Lauretta Bender believed that she could cure children’s social issues with electroshock therapy. She was known to be unsympathetic to the children in her care. Before her treatments were shut down she had given electroshock therapy to over 100 children. The youngest of which was three years old.
Radioactive Materials in Pregnant Women
After World War II, researchers started investigating radioactivity. 829 pregnant women were given “vitamin drinks” which were really radioactive iron and researcher watched how quickly the radioisotope crossed onto the placenta. Many of the babies died and the women experienced cancer and many other side affects.
