Need to cure your diabetes or catch yourself a husband? “No problema,” says the Shaman from the Witchcraft Market in the historic part of Mexico city. It’s really an entire neighborhood that functions as a huge retail and food market specializing in voodoo, witchcraft, spells, fortune-telling, and love potions.
Each vendor sells something different trying to appeal to whatever desires or needs you have. For about $10 you can have your fortune-told in a smoke filled room with a Shaman with long glittery nails.
You can browse the herbal medicines, dolls, statues of saints to worship, tarot cards and if you need help there are hundreds of witches and shamans that can help you on the spot with spells and cleansings.
Now let me remind you that the ingredients for their potions and cleansings can include rattlesnake skins, desiccated hummingbirds, fried fox, frogs, squirrels, but for about $10 you can watch your magic boil in a cauldron. Maybe pick a potion you don’t have to drink or a ready-made spell?
I will say I have been to Mexico about twelve times, but never to Mexico City. If I go, I will definitely check this out and experience all there is to see. I believe in respecting cultures, respecting religions and beliefs and experiencing life.
