For those of you who don’t know, Mary Coffins is our resident, “practically perfect in every way” Miss Know-It-All. Feel free to write to her with questions and you just might see your question in one of our articles.
Some people dabble in Goth. It’s not because they are posers, they are just those mutant Half Pale-Hearts, half Goth. 🙂 They are a little more mainstream, but they love and see beauty in our culture. And while I’ve seen Goths shun those people, I welcome them. It is extremely flattering that they like our culture and see beauty in the dark.
Then there are those who are hard-core Goth, know they are, everyone knows they are, there IS. NO. QUESTION.
But then there are those that feel like maybe they are, but they aren’t quite sure what it means and how you really become Goth. So here’s a little info for those newbies to digest.
- Goth is a state of mind. It’s what’s on the inside. And yes, when you are confident about who you are on the inside, then you start expressing your Dark Soul on the outside.
- There are so many types of Goth, and no one person is the POPE of Goth and can or can’t tell you, that isn’t Goth or you aren’t Goth.
- Goth is about being yourself. And accepting those that are different or alternative or don’t really fit the Pale Heart mold. Oh…and for the record we refer to non-Goths as Pale Hearts around here.
Ask yourself the questions below and maybe you will find a little piece of yourself today. 🙂
P.S. By no means are these the only parts of Goth. It is a vast culture, but we want all our Dark Souls to find themselves and these might help you towards your path in life.
When you get dressed like a Pale Heart, do you wish you could dress differently? Does it feel like work to look “normal”. Does it make you sad you can’t express yourself the way you feel inside?
Goth is not a phase. It’s a culture that people are a part of all or most of their lives. Do not let anyone tell you, you are too old to be Goth.
Do you have to buy almost every pair of black boots you see? (This doesn’t make you Goth, but it’s a fun one since we are obsessed with black boots.) 🙂
Do you consider yourself a Dark Soul. What is a Dark Soul? First and foremost, someone that sees beauty in the dark side of life. But appreciates life because we understand that death is just the next chapter.
